Second Anglo-Afghan War
This British camp in Afghanistan served British troops during the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-1880). The British invaded Afghanistan when Afghan ruler Sher Ali entertained Russian interests in the region. The war resulted in British control of Afghanistan’s foreign affairs and the delineation of the present-day borders of Afghanistan to create a buffer state between the Russian Empire and British India.
