Juan Manuel de Rosas
Dictator Juan Manuel de Rosas became governor of Buenos Aires province in 1829, a post that he occupied for three years and then returned to between 1835 and 1852. He imposed order by force and became highly unpopular. His dictatorship ended on February 3, 1852 when he was defeated in the Battle of Caseros. He died 25 years later while in exile in Britain.
