Crusaders Led by Peter the Hermit

Crusaders Led by Peter the Hermit
The First Crusade took place in response to an appeal made by Pope Urban II, in 1095, for Christian leaders in western Europe to rise up and reclaim the Holy Land from Muslim control. Peter the Hermit was one of several leaders who preached in favor of it, and he joined in the conquest of Jerusalem in 1099. This manuscript illumination dates from 1490 and is in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.
