Rudolf of Swabia

Rudolf of Swabia
During the investiture controversy, after the battles between Gregory VII and Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV, disenchanted German nobles in 1077 installed Rudolf of Swabia as an “antiking” or rival to Henry IV. Rudolf remained to a large extent without support; he fell in battle against Henry in 1080.
