Henry VI

Henry VI
Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI (reigned 1191-1197) managed to weaken opposition among the electoral German princes by, among other things, taking the English king Richard the Lion-Hearted prisoner. However, his Erbreichsplan (hereditary empire plan) to create a Hohenstaufen empire that included Sicily ultimately failed. This image of him is from the Manessian manuscript of around 1320 in the University Library of Heidelberg.
