| The active volcano Popocatépetl rises in the Neovolcánica mountain range, southeast of Mexico City, in Puebla State. At 5,452 m (17,887 ft) above sea level, it is the second highest peak in the country, after Citlaltépetl. The snow-capped volcano was scaled for the first time in 1520, by an expedition led by Spanish explorer Diego de Ordás. |
