Inagua, most southerly islands of the Bahamas, consisting of Great Inagua and Little Inagua. Great Inagua lies 130 km (80 mi) north of the Windward Passage that separates the island nations of Cuba and Haiti. Formed of coral, Great Inagua rises 30 m (100 ft) above sea level at its highest point. It has an area of 1,450 sq km (560 sq mi). Lake Rosa, on Great Inagua, is 19 km (12 mi) long and is a breeding ground for the largest flock of flamingos in the Bahamas. Great Inagua’s main settlement is Matthew Town. There are docking facilities for small boats, and there is also an airstrip. Population (1990) 985.

Little Inagua, 8 km (5 mi) northeast of the northern tip of Great Inagua, has an area of 80 sq km (30 sq mi). It is unpopulated.
