Trenton (Ontario), former town, and still a major port, in Hastings County, Ontario, Canada. Trenton lies at the mouth of the Trent River on the Bay of Quinte, an arm of Lake Ontario. It is 150 km (93 mi) northeast of Toronto. Trenton is the southern terminus of the Trent Canal System, while the Murray Canal, through the narrow isthmus at Carrying Place, gives Trenton direct access to Lake Ontario. Trenton was founded in 1790 and incorporated as a town in 1880.
