Saguaro, one of the most spectacular of the cactus trees. The saguaro, which is also known as sahuaro, is a massive tree. Although it grows slowly, it reaches a height of about 15 m (about 50 ft) at maturity. Its sparse branches are covered with heavy spines. Saguaro blossoms, which are the state flower of Arizona, are concentrated at the top of the stems and are creamy white in color. The fruits are edible. Small owls and other desert animals may make their homes in the stems of the saguaro.

Scientific classification: The saguaro belongs to the cactus family, Cactaceae. It is classified as Carnegiea gigantea.
