Redhot Poker, perennial herb of the lily family, native to South Africa, and cultivated in gardens for its bright flowers. The redhot poker, or torch lily, as it is sometimes called, can grow to be 1.2 m (4 ft) in height. Late in summer, numerous long drooping clusters, or racemes, of flowers rise from the long, grass-like lower foliage.

Scientific classification: The redhot poker is a member of the family Liliaceae and is classified as Kniphofia uvaria.
