Kīrthar Range
Encyclopedia Article
Kīrthar Range, mountain range of south central Pakistan, separating the provinces of Baluchistan and Sind. It runs generally south from the border of Afghanistan almost to the Arabian Sea and ends just north of the city of Karāchi. A dry climate prevents the growth of vegetation in the mountains, which do not exceed 3700 m (12,000 ft). The Bolān Pass, an important east-west route, cuts across the northern part of the range about 80 km (about 50 mi) from the Afghan border.
