Conrad Veidt (1893–1943), German film actor, who played the Gestapo officer in Casablanca (1942). An international film star from the 1920s, he moved to Hollywood in the 1940s. His other roles included the sleepwalker in Das Kabinett des Dr. Caligari (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, 1919) and the evil caliph in The Thief of Bagdad (1940).
