Transdermal Patch

Transdermal Patch, adhesive patch containing medication for delivery through the skin. Medication in a transdermal patch is contained in a membrane and released at a controlled rate when the patch is applied to the skin. Medications administered in this way include nitroglycerin to treat angina pectoris (chest pain); scopolamine (also called hyoscine) for travel sickness; estrogen replacement for symptoms related to menopause; and nicotine as an aid to giving up smoking.
