Pont-Aven School, group of painters, led by French artists Paul Gauguin and Émile Bernard, who worked in the town of Pont-Aven in Brittany in the 1880s and 1890s. Their use of pure color and concern with conveying the mood of a scene were later to influence the Symbolists.
