Hugh Masekela, born in 1939, South African trumpet player, exiled from his homeland from 1960 to 1990. He has recorded jazz and rock music, as well as mbaqanga, which was developed in the segregated black townships created under the racial segregation policy of apartheid. A strong opponent of the racial oppressions of his country, he left South Africa. His albums include Techno-Bush (1984).
