Hebrew Bible
Encyclopedia Article
Hebrew Bible, sacred writings of Judaism, some dating from as early as 1200 bc. Christians refer to the Hebrew Bible as the Old Testament. The first five books are known as the Torah, or Pentateuch, and are ascribed to Moses. The Hebrew Bible also includes historical books, prophetic books, and psalms. Originally written in Hebrew, the writings were later translated into Greek as the Septuagint and into many other languages. See also Bible.
