Richard Doyle (1824–1883), English caricaturist and book illustrator. In 1849 he designed the original cover for the humor magazine Punch. He illustrated many books, among them English novelist William Thackeray's The Newcomes (1853) and In Fairyland (1870) by Irish writer William Allingham. He also painted landscapes-usually fantastic fairyland scenes.
