Yellow Submarine, motion picture about four musicians who travel to a cartoon world to save its inhabitants from depression, inspired by the song by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Released in 1968, this animated film features music by the Beatles. The hippie heroes sail the assorted seas of Green, Science, Time, Monsters, and Holes to reach Pepperland. There, they endeavor to straighten out the crabby Blue Meanies with their irresistible message of love. This popular film includes long, psychedelic animated sequences, jokes, and the hit songs “Yellow Submarine,” “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds,” “Nowhere Man,” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
