The Broadway Melody, motion-picture musical about two aspiring actors who suffer heartache on the way to stardom, based on a story by Edmund Goulding. Released in 1929, the film won an Academy Award for Best Picture. When the Mahoney sisters, Queenie (played by Anita Page) and Hank (Bessie Love), try to become stars on Broadway, they both fall in love with a performer (Charles King).
