Rosemary’s Baby, motion picture about a young pregnant woman who lives in an apartment building full of witches and warlocks, based on a novel by Ira Levin. Released in 1968, this horror film was written and directed by Roman Polanski. Ruth Gordon earned an Academy Award for her performance as the overbearing neighbor who is actually a witch. After Rosemary Woodhouse (played by Mia Farrow) and her husband Guy (John Cassavetes) move into a new apartment building, they befriend the neighbors. As Guy’s acting career starts to take off, Rosemary becomes pregnant and has a painful and emotionally traumatic pregnancy. She begins to suspect that the neighbors are not the average people they seem. After Rosemary gives birth to a child that is half-devil and half-human, she learns that her husband made a deal with Satan to help his acting career.
