Pinocchio, animated motion picture about a wooden puppet who longs to become human, produced by Walt Disney Studios. Released in 1940, the film won Academy Awards for its musical score and for the song “When You Wish Upon a Star.” After the toymaker Geppetto (voiced by Christian Rub) wishes on a falling star that his latest puppet was a real boy, the puppet springs to life. The Blue Fairy (Evelyn Venable) tells Pinocchio (Dickie Jones) that if he behaves himself, he will become a real boy. The fairy asks Jiminy Cricket (Cliff Edwards) to be Pinocchio’s moral advisor. Pinocchio learns that every time he tells a lie, his nose grows. He gets kidnapped, almost turns into a donkey, and earns his humanity by saving Geppetto’s life.
