My 20th Century, Hungarian motion picture about twin sisters born in the late 19th century whose lives follow very different trajectories. Ildiko Enyedi won an award at the Cannes Film Festival for directing this film, which was released in 1989. After kidnappers separate the girls at a young age, one sister (played by Dorothea Segda) becomes a high-priced prostitute while the other (Segda) becomes an anarchist. The movie examines the roles of women in society during the early 20th century and comments on the technological innovations of the period.
