Mr. And Mrs. Bridge, motion picture about an affluent couple in Kansas City, Missouri, based on two novels by Evan S. Connell. Released in 1990, the film earned awards from the New York Film Critics Circle for Ruth Prawer Jhabvala’s screenplay and for Joanne Woodward’s performance as Mrs. Bridge. Mrs. Bridge and the rest of the family have difficulty dealing with Mr. Bridge (played by Paul Newman), who is an emotionally distant man. One daughter runs off to New York City to become an actor while the other falls in love with a working-class man.
