Gimme Shelter, motion-picture documentary about the Rolling Stones’s free concert at Altamont Speedway. Released in 1970, this film features music by the Rolling Stones and Jefferson Airplane. The Stones perform “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Under my Thumb,” “Satisfaction,” and other well-known songs. Unfortunately, the band hires the Hell’s Angels biker gang to act as security guards at the overcrowded concert, which almost 300,000 people attend. A small skirmish leads the Angels to violently attack some spectators, resulting in the death of one fan and ending the peaceful Woodstock Era of rock concerts. This film was shot by cinematographer Haskell Wexler.
