Gentleman’s Agreement (motion picture), motion picture about an investigative reporter who pretends to be Jewish in order to research an article. Released in 1947, this was one of the first Hollywood movies to explore the subject of anti-Semitism. The film won Academy Awards for best picture and best director. Gregory Peck plays Phil Green, the reporter who is surprised and saddened by the discrimination he experiences while posing as a Jewish man. Celeste Holm won an Academy Award for her spirited portrayal of Green’s wisecracking friend, Anne, a fashion editor.
