Earthquake (motion picture), box-office hit disaster film about an enormous earthquake destroying Los Angeles. When the film was released in 1974, a special effect on the soundtrack called Sensurround projected sound waves through the theaters that caused the seats to vibrate slightly during the big earthquake. The movie won an Academy Award for best sound and another for special achievement in visual effects. Charlton Heston and a star-studded cast struggle to survive the disaster.
