Encyclopedia Article
Bringing Up Baby, motion-picture comedy about an heiress, a leopard named Baby, a paleontologist, and a dinosaur bone, starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. Released in 1938, this film chronicles the misadventures of David Huxley (played by Grant) after he meets a high-spirited heiress (Hepburn) on a golf course. Huxley is at an important turning point in his life—he is about to get married, and he is almost done assembling a dinosaur he has been working on for several years. After the heiress’s dog runs off with one of the dinosaur bones and her pet leopard escapes, Huxley gets tangled in a series of ridiculous situations. Huxley and the heiress fall in love.
