Betrayal, motion picture based on the semiautobiographical play by Harold Pinter. Released in 1983, this film tells the story of a couple’s relationship—from its tentative beginnings, through dating, marriage, and the wife’s eventual affair with the husband’s best friend. Told from the husband’s point of view, Betrayal begins two years after the affair and moves chronologically backward, providing perfect hindsight for the viewer as the characters misjudge the future and make painful mistakes in their relationship.
