Oakland University, public, coeducational institution in Rochester, Michigan, about 40 km (about 25 mi) north of Detroit. The school was founded in 1957. The university confers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in a wide range of fields. Courses of study include African American studies, Asian studies, international studies, anthropology, business administration and management, computer science, engineering, mathematics, health sciences, physical sciences, medical technology, psychology, political science and government, public affairs and policy studies, and women’s studies. Research facilities include the Eye Research Institute, the Institute for Action Research, and the Center for Robotics and Advanced Automation.
