College of Insurance, private, coeducational institution in New York City. The college was founded in 1962 but traces its origins back to 1917, when the Insurance Society of New York began offering classes. The society founded the School of Insurance in 1947, and the state of New York sanctioned the establishment of the College of Insurance 15 years later. The College of Insurance confers associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in a variety of fields related to the insurance industry. Courses of study include actuarial science, business, and insurance.
