Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site

Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, national historic site authorized in 1989. Located south of Saint Louis, Missouri, the site preserves the estate where United States President Ulysses S. Grant and his wife lived prior to the American Civil War (1861-1865). The two-story home was built in the 19th century and named White Haven. Other historic structures are a stone building, a barn, an ice house, and a chicken house. The farm owned by the Grants is located next to, but is not part of, the historic site. Administered by the National Park Service. Area, 3.9 hectares (9.6 acres).
