Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site, national historic site authorized in 1962. Located in New York City, the site preserves the birthplace of President Theodore Roosevelt (1901-1909). He was born on October 27, 1858, in the four-story brownstone building and lived there until the early 1870s. The building was torn down in 1916 and reconstructed in 1923. The site includes some of the original furnishings as well as Roosevelt family items. Administered by the National Park Service. Area, .04 hectares (.11 acres).
