Mississippi National River and Recreation Area

Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, national river established in 1988. Located in Minnesota, the park preserves 116 km (72 mi) of the Mississippi River that runs through the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area. The recreation area runs from Hastings, southeast of Saint Paul, to Dayton, northwest of Minneapolis, and includes a number of public parks. In addition to flowing through urban areas, the river cuts through a narrow gorge and features locks and dams. Administered in part by the National Park Service. Area, 21,762 hectares (53,775 acres).
