Korean War Veterans Memorial, national memorial authorized in 1986. Located in Washington, D.C., the memorial commemorates the Americans who fought in the Korean War (1950-1953). The triangular park features 19 statues of soldiers from all branches of the military and from many ethnic backgrounds. The statues are posed in combat positions in front of a gray granite memorial wall 50 m (164 ft) long. More than 2500 images of military support personnel taken from photographs are etched into the wall. The site also includes the Pool of Remembrance and a listing of the other nations that fought in the Korean War. Administered by the National Park Service. Area, 0.9 hectares (2.2 acres).
