Windows Live® Search Results Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, national historic site authorized in 1987. Located in Plains, Georgia, the site commemorates United States President Jimmy Carter (1977-1981). It includes the house in which Carter was born, the home in which he grew up, the high school he attended, the service station owned by his brother Billy Carter, Carter’s Peanut Warehouse, and the railroad depot that served as Carter’s headquarters during the 1976 campaign. Part of the town of Plains has been designated the Jimmy Carter National Preservation District, although it is not part of the national historic site. Administered by the National Park Service. Area, 29 hectares (71 acres).
