Nikkei Stock Average

Nikkei Stock Average, leading index of share prices on the Tokyo Stock Exchange that was first published as the Nikkei-Dow Jones Average in 1949. It is calculated by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper and is based on the average prices of 225 equities. Other Nikkei indices include the ISE-Nikkei 50 Index, which is based on the price of 50 equities that are traded on both the London Stock Exchange (whose official name is the International Stock Exchange of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
