Simon Guggenheim

Simon Guggenheim (1867-1941), American industrialist and philanthropist, son of Meyer Guggenheim, born in Philadelphia, and educated in Europe. He was a member of the firm of Guggenheim Brothers and from 1919 until his death was president of the American Smelting and Refining Company. He was U.S. senator (1907-13) from Colorado for a term, but declined to stand for reelection. In 1925 he established, with his wife, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in memory of a son.
