Supercooling, process of retaining the liquid state of a substance at a temperature at which it would normally freeze (see Freezing Point). In meteorology, it has been found that the water droplets in certain clouds may persist in liquid form at temperatures at which ice crystals would normally be expected. In some extreme cases, supercooled clouds have been known to exist at -40° C (-40° F).
