Islands of the northern Grenadines include Bequia, Canouan, Mustique, Mayreau, and Union, all part of the independent country of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Carriacou, part of the independent country of Grenada, is in the south. Among the few economic activities on the Grenadines are the production of cotton on Carriacou and the growing of citrus fruit.
