Windows Live® Search Results Gatineau (river), river, southern Québec Province. It rises in a chain of lakes northeast of Réservoir Baskatong and flows for 390 km (240 mi) south to join the Ottawa River at Hull. Long a major route for floating logs to processing plants, the river is now a main source of hydroelectricity. The lower Gatineau is a resort area. The river is named for Nicolas Gatineau, a fur trader who died in the early 1680s.
