Plains of Abraham

Plains of Abraham, also Heights of Abraham, plateau, southern Québec Province, in the city of Québec, overlooking the St. Lawrence River. During the French and Indian War, it was (September 13, 1759) the scene of a decisive victory by British troops over French forces. The plateau is named for a riverboat pilot, Abraham Martin, who owned part of the land. A portion of the battlefield is preserved as a national historic park.
