Molise, region, eastern Italy, bordered on the north by the region of Abruzzi, on the east by the Adriatic Sea, on the south by the regions of Apulia and Campania, and on the west by the region of Lazio (Latium). Molise is divided into Campobasso and Isernia provinces; the city of Campobasso is the regional capital. In 1963 the region of Abruzzi e Molise was divided into two separate regions: Abruzzi and Molise. Area, 4,438 sq km (1,714 sq mi); population 320,074 (2007 estimate).
