Er Rif, mountain range, northwestern Africa, extending along the coastline of Morocco from the city of Tangier to the western frontier of Algeria. It forms a line of steep cliffs with few harbors. Average elevations range from about 915 to 2135 m (about 3000 to 7000 ft), but a number of peaks exceed 2438 m (8000 ft).
