Seleucia Tracheotis

Seleucia Tracheotis, city of ancient Cilicia, on the site of modern Silifke, near the mouth of the Calycadnus (Göksu) River in southern Turkey. Founded by King Seleucus I in the 3rd century bc, Seleucia Tracheotis was a thriving port in Hellenistic and Roman times. A synod of the Christian church was held in the city in ad359, and Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I died there in 1190.
