Jungfrau, mountain, southern Switzerland, of the Bernese Oberland (Bernese Alps), located on the border between the cantons of Bern and Valais and rising to a height of 4158 m (13,642 ft) above sea level. The Jungfrau was ascended for the first time in 1811. A railroad, the highest in Europe, ascends the mountain to Jungfraujoch, a point 3,454 m (11,332 ft) above sea level.
