Encyclopedia Article
Electroglow, phenomenon observed in the atmospheres of the gas-giant planets of the outer solar system. The glow is produced on the sunlit side of the planets by the interaction of atmospheric hydrogen with electrons released from atoms by the sun's ultraviolet light. The phenomenon is most notable around Uranus.
