Euclid (city, Ohio), city, Cuyahoga County, northeastern Ohio, on Lake Erie, near Cleveland; settled 1797, incorporated as a city 1930. Its many manufactures include aircraft and motor-vehicle parts and construction equipment. Formerly a resort and a grape-growing and stone-quarrying center, Euclid expanded rapidly into a manufacturing hub during World War II. The Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes is in Euclid. The city is named for the Greek mathematician Euclid. Population 59,999 (1980); 54,875 (1990); 52,717 (2000); 49,619 (2005 estimate).
