Chiru

Chiru, antelope that has adapted to living on mountain plateaus as high as 5500 m (as high as 18,000 ft). The adult chiru, also known as the Tibetan antelope, may stand 79 to 94 cm (31 to 37 in) at the shoulder. It has a thick, pinkish-brown coat, and its nose has a swollen appearance. The male bears two slender horns, nearly straight, that may extend to 71 cm (28 in) long. In winter the animals descend from their homes on the plateaus of Tibet and Ladakh to lower altitudes. Chirus are considered a rare species.
Scientific classification: The chiru belongs to the family Bovidae of the order Artiodactyla. It is classified as Pantholops hodgsoni.
