Windows Live® Search Results Perim (Arabic Barim), island, Republic of Yemen, in the Bab el Mandeb (a strait connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden), off the southwestern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. It is a rocky volcanic island, 13 sq km (5 sq mi) in area. Perim was occupied by the French for a time in the 18th century, and the British maintained a coaling station here from 1857 to 1936.
