Map of Clinch

Clinch, river, southeastern United States, a tributary of the Tennessee River and an important component of the Tennessee Valley Authority system. It flows generally southwest for 480 km (300 mi) from a source near Tazewell, southwestern Virginia, to Watts Bar Lake of the Tennessee River, near Kingston, eastern Tennessee. Major dams regulating the flow of the Clinch River are Norris Dam (1936), which impounds the river to form Norris Lake, and Melton Hill Dam (1964).
